Add passkeys to your account for a simpler login
Passkeys are digital credentials that allow you to sign in to websites and apps without using a password. They are designed to be more secure, easier to use, and resistant to phishing.
How passkeys work
Passkeys are stored on a your device and unlocked with a biometric sensor, PIN, or pattern. When you want to sign in, your browser or operating system will help select the right passkey.
The system then verifies your identity and proves it to the website without revealing the actual passkey.
Benefits of passkeys:
- Stronger security - passkeys are resistant to phishing and can't be reused or guessed.
- Easier to use - passkeys simplify account registration and can be used across all of a user's devices.
- Improved user experience - passkeys are always strong and don't require users to remember anything.
Creating your Bitcoin.Tax passkey
1. Log into your account, click the Account tab and scroll down to Login Details. Here you will see the Passkeys section.
2. Click the button click create your new passkey. This will take you through a set of steps depending in the passkey you are adding. For example you can use Windows Hello, a 6 digit PIN number, a YubiKey - a hardware token, or your iPhone or Android phone.

Once you have completed the steps you should see the passkeys listed
You can click the edit icon to edit the friendly names.
Logging in with a passkey
To login, click the login link as normal, or go to our login page.
Click the passkey icon just above the email address field. Some browsers will also let you click into the email address field and will popup a list of known passkeys that you can choose.
Just follow the instructions for your passkeys and you will be authorized and logged into your account.
Removing a passkey
Removing a passkey is currently a 2-step process. First, remove it from bitcoin.tax by clicking the X next to the passkey name. Secontly, you need to remove the passkey from the device itself. In Windows 11 for example, you can go to the Settings app, search for "passkeys" and view or remove any Windows registered passkeys.
